THE LAW Death Metal Side Project MORDBRAND To Release Split 12"

August 26, 2009

Guitarist Björn Larsson of THE LAW, the Swedish San Francisco Bay Area thrash-influenced metal band, has issued the following update:

"Two years ago, me and Johan Rudberg (drummer from THE LAW) did a couple of death metal tunes, old-school style. We made them and recorded them in a primitive style in our rehearsal place, and it all went smoothly. It just came to my attention that these four tracks will be released as a split 12" (with Britain's EVOKE) early next year. I won't go into details just yet, but if you like real death metal you will probably enjoy MORDBRAND. One of these tracks, 'Unholy Ungodly', is available at my personal MySpace page."

THE LAW is currently writing material for its sophomore album, which is tentatively due next year. According to Larsson, "We have about seven or eight new songs that are basically done, 'cept for the vocal parts that we'll focus on during the demo recording process."

Regarding the musical direction of the new material, Larsson said, "We've really tried to get away from the bogus '80s wannabe scene that frankly is getting a bit boring. We've taken the energy and the catchy stuff from the originators, but our main focus is to do something fresh and interesting. I think we're doing just that, but then again, that's what we've always tried to do. It's thrash, sure, but it's THE LAW — not 'Pleasures Of The Flesh' [EXODUS] or 'The New Order' [TESTAMENT]. We're not interested in dress codes such as stretch jeans and mullets, and we never were. I guess you could say that we ain't posers."

THE LAW recently parted ways with bassist Jimmie "Ninja" Frödin and replaced him with Kristian "Anti-Kristian" Karlsson from INFERIOR.

THE LAW's debut album, "Distorted Anthems from the Suburbs", was released in August 2008 via Metalcentral Records. The artwork for the CD was created by the Polish artist Lukasz Jaszak (BLOOD RED THRONE, THE VISION BLEAK, BEHEMOTH). According to a press release, the disc includes "nine tracks of thrashing anthems inspired by the greats of the '80s, but with a modern touch and some flavors of [THE LAW's] own."

THE LAW is:

Tobias Jansson (ANGEL BLAKE, TREASURE LAND, SUGARGLIDER) - Vocals
Björn Larsson (KARENSDAG) - Guitar
Peter Östlund (VOMITORY) - Guitar
Kristian "Anti-Kristian" Karlsson (INFERIOR) - Bass
Johan Rudberg (KARENSDAG) - Drums
